Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data is processed when you visit saltandsyntax.me, contact me or book a lesson, and what rights you have.

Who is responsible

Visiting the website

The website is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub Inc., USA). When you open a page, your browser sends technical data such as your IP address, browser type and time of access. GitHub processes this data to deliver the site and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Google Analytics (only with your consent)

If you click “Accept” in the cookie banner, I use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.) to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are visited and how often the booking button is clicked. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and processes data such as pages visited, device type and approximate location. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4.

Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you click “Decline”, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time via cookie settings. Data may be transferred to the USA; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Contact form

If you send a message through the contact form, the data you enter (name, email, language, who the lessons are for, your message) is transmitted via Formspree (Formspree Inc., USA) and forwarded to my email inbox. I use it only to answer your question and, if you wish, to arrange lessons (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Booking a lesson

Trial lessons are booked through Cal.com (Cal.com Inc., USA). Cal.com processes the data you enter there (such as name, email and chosen time) to schedule the appointment (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Cal.com’s own privacy policy applies to that page.

Email, WhatsApp and Viber

If you write to me by email, WhatsApp or Viber, I process your contact details and the content of your messages to reply and organise lessons (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Emails to hello@saltandsyntax.me are forwarded via Cloudflare and stored in Gmail (Google). WhatsApp is operated by Meta and Viber by Rakuten Viber; their privacy policies apply when you use them.

Lessons

Lessons take place over Zoom or Google Meet. I do not record lessons. For students I teach, I keep the information needed to plan lessons and issue invoices. Invoicing data is kept for as long as Croatian tax law requires.

How long data is kept

Enquiries that do not lead to lessons are deleted once they are no longer needed, at the latest after 12 months. Data of students is kept for the duration of the lessons and afterwards only as long as legally required.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Just email hello@saltandsyntax.me.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Croatia this is the Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP), Selska cesta 136, 10000 Zagreb, azop.hr.
